In recent years, electronic devices have been demanding higher densities in smaller form factors. To meet this demand and achieve space savings and design flexibility, power integrated circuits must be able to operate stably even with small capacitors. However, achieving this performance with output capacitors of 1 µF or less has presented significant technical challenges.
To address this challenge, ROHM developed theBD9xxN1 series (150 mA output current) in 2022, incorporating its patented "Nano Cap™" ultra-stable control technology. This innovation enables stable operation with output capacitors as small as 100 nF, leading to its widespread adoption in numerous applications.
The new BD9xxN5 series builds on the success of the BD9xxN1 series by increasing the output current to 500 mA—more than triple the previous output—significantly expanding its suitability for higher-power applications. Furthermore, it achieves a very low output ripple voltage of approximately 250 mV (with a load current change from 1 mA to 500 mA in 1 µs) with a small output capacitance of only 470 nF (typical). In addition to standard small MLCCs (multilayer ceramic capacitors) in the multi-µF range and large-capacity electrolytic capacitors, it also supports ultra-small MLCCs, such as the 0603M size (0.6 mm × 0.3 mm), with capacitances below 1 µF, where stability was previously difficult to achieve. This contributes to space savings and greater flexibility in component selection.
Mass production of this series began in October 2025 with a monthly production capacity of 300,000 units. It is also available for purchase online through online retailers such as DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell.
In addition, high-precision SPICE models, "ROHM Real Model", are provided for accurate simulation, which can be downloaded from the official ROHM website.

What is Nano Cap™ technology?
Nano Cap™ technology refers to ultra-stable control technology achieved by combining ROHM's expertise in advanced analog design—encompassing circuit design, processes, and layout—with its vertically integrated production system. This stable control eliminates the operational stability issues associated with capacitors in analog circuits, thereby reducing design resources for a wide range of applications in automotive, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, and other sectors.
