The 219 Series surface mount reed relays are an excellent choice for a wide range of high-voltage applications, such as mixed-signal semiconductor testers, medical equipment testing, electric vehicle charging point testing, and monitoring the photovoltaic efficiency of solar cells.
Within the 219 series, all contact configurations are offered with three coil voltages: 3 V, 5 V, or 12 V. The switch-to-coil separation is up to 1.5 kV in the 2-form A package, up to 2 kV in the 1-form B package, and up to 3 kV in the 1-form A package, while the switch-to-coil isolation is up to 5 kV in the 1-form A and 1-form B types. The switching current is up to 0.7 A and 10 W, and the operating temperature range is from -40°C to +105°C.
All models are offered with an optional diode. Suppression diodes are placed inside the relay to protect the device that drives the relay coil from the reverse phase generated when current flow to the coil is interrupted. This current drop causes a voltage surge that can damage other components on a printed circuit board, such as the coil drive.
"Only Pickering manufactures surface-mount high-voltage relays with two Form A and one Form B packages," says Robert King, Product Development Manager at Pickering Electronics. "The two Form A configuration optimizes board space, providing two switches in the same footprint. With one Form B, users can have a normally closed relay option that is not available on the market.".
As customers might expect, the Pickering Series 219 Reed Relay is available with several standard construction options to suit your specific application. If your requirements cannot be met with a standard relay or any of the standard manufacturing options, the company also offers a custom Reed Relay service tailored to the user's specific application.
Like other relays produced by Pickering, the new 219 Series high-voltage reed relays utilize the finest instrument-grade switches with blade coatings suitable for the currents and voltages required by the application. Another innovation—not yet employed by some competitors—is SoftCenter™ technology, which minimizes internal stresses in the reed switch, resulting in longer service life and improved contact resistance stability. The use of Mu-Metal magnetic shielding and electrostatic shielding prevents malfunctions.
