w40 engineThree-phase induction motors are suitable for any industrial application requiring high performance and reliability, including pumps, compressors, fans, and more. The design has been optimized to make the motors more compact and lighter than their predecessors, while also reducing their overall size. With an innovative and robust cast iron housing, the motors can be used in extremely harsh conditions and ensure low noise and vibration levels. Optimized rotor and stator configurations, along with improved motor cooling, result in exceptionally high power density (the ratio of power output to weight), making WEG's W40, W50, and W60 series motors among the most efficient on the market.

The W60 series two- and four-pole motors are available in IEC450 to IEC560 frame sizes, with power ratings and voltage ratings from 800 kW to 4,250 kW and from 2,300 V to 10,000 V, respectively. For maximum flexibility, the motors are available in three configurations: open with self-ventilation (IC01, WP-II), enclosed with air-to-air cooling (IC611, TEAAC), and enclosed with an air-to-water heat exchanger (IC81, TEWAC). Thanks to their compact design, the motors require minimal base space and are the smallest in their class on the market. Noise and vibration levels are exceptionally low due to the robust construction, featuring a high-quality cast iron frame and protective cover, as well as the rigidity of the motor shaft, which eliminates critical bending vibrations below the rated speed. That's why W60 motors are a good choice for applications exposed to strong vibrations with variable frequency drives. The rotor and stator configurations, high-efficiency fans, and optimized heat exchangers allow W60 series motors to achieve above-average efficiency and power density levels.

The W60 motors are designed for continuous operation. Installation and commissioning are straightforward. They are also ideal for use with medium-voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs), functioning as standard motors without speed restrictions due to critical vibrations. WEG's MVW series VFDs are a perfect match. The motors come standard with ball bearings, but plain bearings are also available. These ranges allow users to tailor the motors to their specific application requirements by incorporating optional accessories such as differential pressure sensors for ventilation, coolant leak detectors, automatic lubrication systems for roller bearings, or encoders.

The design and construction of the W50 series are very similar to those of the W60 series, featuring a robust cast iron frame and high power density. W50 motors, available in 2- to 12-pole configurations, come in frame sizes from IEC315 to IEC450, with power ratings and voltage ratings from 90 kW to 1,280 kW and 440 V to 6,600 V, respectively. They also offer low noise and vibration levels (78 dB at 3,000 rpm) and are available with protection ratings from IP55 to IP66. The motors are equipped with ball bearings as standard, but plain bearings are also available. W50 motors are cooled according to EN 60034-6 (IC 411) and are designed for use with variable frequency drives. In particular, the rigid motor shaft eliminates speed restrictions due to critical internal vibrations at speeds up to 3,000 rpm at 50 Hz and 3,600 rpm at 60 Hz. The W50 series is available with the following mounting options: B3, B5, V1, and V6.

The W40 open-circuit motors (ODP) with 2, 4, or 6 poles are among the smallest members of this motor range and are suitable for applications where dirt and humidity are not critical factors. They are also available in frame sizes from IEC280L to IEC450 with power ratings from 250 kW to 1,650 kW for low and medium voltage. They achieve protection ratings of IP23 or IP24. Furthermore, these modular motors exhibit particularly low noise and vibration levels, with slight differences between the various models (ODP, WPI, and WPII).
