Unlike many available PhotoMOS® relays, the galvanic isolation between input and output in TSON relays is capacitive, not optical. This not only allows for a smaller design but also offers considerable advantages in temperature range, drive power, and switching times. Thus, the new TSON relays can be used in operating conditions with ambient temperatures up to +105°C. The current required for control is typically low at 0.04 mA, and the input can be operated directly with voltages typically around 3.3Vin. Therefore, a series resistor, which is usually required for conventional PhotoMOS® relays, is no longer necessary for this type of voltage control.
