The EN 81-20 standard defines the specifications for the construction and technical properties of elevators. A new specification stipulates that the risk of children's hands becoming trapped in glass doors must be reduced. Furthermore, all elevators must be equipped with light grilles in the doors and ensure improved stopping accuracy. The limit values for measuring creepage distances and electrical circuit distances relevant to safety have also been increased.

Safety relay for the new elevator standard EN 81-20
In order to further improve the already high safety standards for elevators, safety requirements for the construction of elevator installations will be strengthened in the future. By September 1, 2017, at the latest, elevator control systems throughout Europe must meet the stringent requirements of the new EN 81-20 standard.
The new PSR-MC37 safety relay from Phoenix Contact's PSRmini product line already meets stringent safety requirements. This safe switching device is only 22.5 mm wide and is used for safety-oriented bypass of door switches and interlocking devices.
