The standardized supply voltage range reduces the number of versions. With just one unit, the customer can cover all existing supply voltages. Sirius 3RN2 thermistor motor protection relays protect motors against overheating by measuring the temperature at critical points. PTC (positive temperature coefficient) temperature sensors are integrated into the motor windings to monitor for overheating.
From the outset, the ATEX versions of the new generation Sirius 3RN2 thermistor motor protection relays were developed with a focus on safety. They are verified as suitable for SIL1 applications, meeting the requirements of DIN EN 50495. The ATEX certification is valid for both gas-laden and dust-laden atmospheres. This ensures safe production for the machine, the customer, and operators, even under harsh conditions such as those found in the oil, gas, and chemical industries, as well as in mills and sawmills.
Commissioning the new Sirius 3RN2 units is simple. Firstly, no parameters need to be assigned, reducing the potential for operator error. Secondly, commissioning doesn't require extensive knowledge of motors, such as their maximum operating temperature.
Background:
Thermistor motor protection relays are used where circuit breakers or overload relays do not provide adequate protection. In these cases, the motor can overheat if, for example, the fan fails or the ambient temperature exceeds the maximum limits. Typical applications for thermistor motor protection relays include heavy starting, normal and reverse operation, and where there is a risk of motor cooling being affected by contamination, such as in the paper or textile industries and cement plants.
