Traditionally, designers have used three 400V to 450V capacitors connected in series, along with voltage balancing resistors in each device, to handle DC bus voltages up to 1100V—a solution that increases design complexity and potential points of failure. With higher voltage ratings of up to 600V, the new 193 PUR-SI series devices allow this voltage range to be achieved with fewer components, eliminating the need for voltage balancing circuitry. This results in PCB space savings and reduced bill of materials (BOM) costs. Furthermore, the increased voltage headroom extends capacitor life and improves overall system reliability.

Designed to withstand the demanding switching currents of today's high-power converters, the 193 PUR-SI series capacitors support ripple currents up to 3.27 A. Their long lifespan of 5,000 hours at +105 °C allows them to be used in demanding applications requiring more than 25 years of operation, with ambient temperatures up to +60 °C. Featuring a cylindrical aluminum case insulated by a blue sleeve, the devices offer capacitance values from 47 µF to 820 µF in 25 compact sizes, ranging from 22 mm × 25 mm to 35 mm × 60 mm. The RoHS-compliant capacitors are also available with polarity-coded 3-pin snap-in terminals, providing a more secure PCB mounting.

As polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with non-solid electrolyte, these devices are ideal for smoothing, buffering, and DC-Link filtering in switched-mode power supplies; chargers, battery management systems (BMS), and motor controls in electric (EV) and hybrid (HEV) vehicles; industrial motor drives and air conditioning systems; solar inverters; medical equipment; UPS systems; and welding equipment.
