The AS-i modules provide an open fieldbus solution that allows for easy connection between the backplane of a programmable logic controller (PLC) and simple field input/output (I/O) devices, such as actuators, sensors, rotary encoders, pushbuttons, and valve position sensors. The modules are ideal for a wide range of industrial automation applications, including conveyor belt control, packaging machines, process control valves, electrical distribution systems, airport baggage carousels, elevators, and food packaging and production lines.
“One of the most outstanding advantages of the AS-i modules is their simple and straightforward installation thanks to the two-button design and integrated display,” says George Kairys, product manager for the global market at Molex, and concludes: “Ultimately, this speeds up the commissioning process and minimizes downtime, whether planned or unplanned.”
AS-i communication modules are designed for rack mounting and can interface with signals from AS-i field devices, transmit that information to the PLC, and forward control information to the AS-i actuator. They comply with the new AS-i Specification 3.0, making them compatible with the latest AS-i products and earlier versions. Their very short cycle time makes them an ideal solution for high-speed machine control applications.
The modules are supplied along with cables and configuration software and include diagnostic tools that help identify configuration errors and network failures, which in turn further reduces commissioning time and downtime.
