With a regulated, non-isolated 390VDC output, the module offers peak efficiency of up to 97.3% — a 2.3% improvement over the company's previous generation PFCs — and increases power density by 44% to 380W/cubic inch.
The module includes features not typically associated with half-brick designs, such as internal inrush current limiting and digital control and monitoring via PMBus®. Auxiliary power supply compatibility allows for external internal maintenance while maintaining a compact size, facilitating further miniaturization of customers' power systems.
“This represents a significant advancement in power system design, thanks to AE’s patented technology,” said David Richmond, senior vice president of High Volume Products at Advanced Energy. “By combining 1100 W of power with extensive integrated functionality, Advanced Energy’s AIH03ZPFC reduces losses by 46% compared to previous designs and sets new standards for power delivery, peak efficiency, and capacity in a half-brick PFC module.”.
A unity power factor across a wide input range of 85 to 264 VAC and the absence of power reduction under low input voltage conditions simplify regulatory compliance and maximize usable power. The AIH03ZPFC is compatible with standard heat sinks and thermal solutions and can be deployed as a standalone PFC or combined with downstream DC-DC converters.
Contact cooling with the motherboard allows operation between -20 and +100 °C, with startup as low as -40 °C. The design features a standard 2.4 x 2.3-inch (61 x 58.4 mm) half-brick package with an installed height of 0.52 inches (13.3 mm). Integrating digital control, built-in monitoring, and protection features into a standard half-brick form factor enables the design of high-density systems while improving visibility and performance control.
