The SST26VF family of flexible MAC address chips helps designers save time and costs, as well as accelerate time to market for low- to medium-volume production. Available MAC addresses offer Flash capacities of 6 megabits (Mb), 32Mb, and 64Mb.

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) means that embedded system designers currently need to acquire, program, and serialize Media Access Control (MAC) addresses from the IEEE Registration Authority (RA) for all connected products. The IEEE RA only sells blocks of 4,000 to 16 million, so small and medium-sized businesses pay a higher cost for a small volume. The SST26VF helps eliminate the need for businesses to acquire and manage these unique identifiers from the IEEE RA.

Preprogrammed EUI-48 and EUI-64 node addresses consist of an Organizational Unique Identifier (OUI) and an Extension Identifier (EI). While each company acquires its OUI from the IEEE, the EI is assigned and managed by each company, which develops a unique EI for each product, thus ensuring a globally unique EUI node address for every device used or supplied.

The SST26VF064BEUI, SST26VF032BEUI, and SST26VF016BEUI devices feature a 4-bit, six-wire I/O interface, enabling low power consumption and high performance in a compact package. Available in 8-pin SOIC and 8-pin WSON packages, these devices take up less board space, reducing overall system costs. They incorporate an SQI Flash chip with flexible write protection to prevent accidental overwriting or erasure of code. Integrating Microchip's proprietary SuperFlash® technology, this family offers long battery life, low operating currents, and low power consumption, making these devices ideal for cloud-connected consumer and industrial applications such as smart home hubs, smart appliances, building control systems, factory automation, security, and surveillance equipment.

Microchip offers pre-programming services for custom firmware.
