These features are key for consumers, as they provide a more immersive, realistic, and comfortable augmented reality (AR) experience at a time when smart glasses are experiencing widespread adoption.
“The new OP03021 LCOS microdisplay combines higher resolution and an expanded field of view with the efficiency of a single-chip, low-power design,” said Devang Patel, Marketing Director for the IoT and Emerging Technologies segment at OMNIVISION. “This ultra-compact yet powerful LCOS panel is a key element in smart glasses, contributing to a more attractive, lightweight, and comfortable design for extended, all-day wear. Smart glasses are rapidly becoming one of the leading emerging consumer technology products, with adoption potential comparable to smartphones. We are excited to be part of this transformation alongside many of the leading smart glasses designers and manufacturers, helping to make them an everyday product.”
“The OP03021 LCOS, with its smaller 3.0-micron pixel size and integrated control, image buffer memory, and MIPI receiver built directly into the silicon backplane, reduces overall size and power consumption—critical factors in smart glasses design,” said Karl Guttag, president of KGOnTech.
The OP03021 LCOS panel features a 3.0-micron pixel size and achieves a resolution of 1632 × 1536 at 90 Hz via field-sequential input, using a trio MIPI-C-PHY interface. It comes in a compact FPCA package. Samples are available now, and mass production is planned for the first half of 2026.
