The SPB611 supports dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax at 80 MHz) and Bluetooth 5.2, while the SPB209 offers Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 4.2. The SPB611 (Wi-Fi 6) module also offers a tri-radio option to add 802.15.4-2020 mesh networking capability (Thread® and ZigBee®). Both modules can be supplied with an LTE filter and antenna on the printed circuit board to reduce system size.
These 3.3V modules are supplied in a compact 14 x 14 mm (196 mm²) 41-pin form factor. A 4-bit SDIO 3.0 and an HS-UART provide the external interface for WLAN and Bluetooth data, respectively, with robust hardware DMA support to minimize the processing load on the host CPU.
Sleep and standby modes reduce power consumption, while the wide operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C makes the modules ideal for a variety of industrial applications. Both modules were previously available as custom Tria System Solutions and integrated into Tria's SMARC computer modules. They are now also supplied as standalone products under the Tria brand, giving engineers complete flexibility to meet their wireless connectivity needs using SMARC computer modules, a custom Tria system, or by deploying the modules as standalone devices on their own hardware or carrier board.
“We are the only major manufacturer of embedded computer boards that also designs and manufactures wireless modules, so we are in the best position to provide unified software and support for computer and RF components,” said Thomas Staudinger, President of Tria.
“The advantages for customers of buying from a single supplier include easier software updates, guaranteed software compatibility, and direct support to help engineers meet security requirements such as RED DA and the Cyber Resilience Act. Working with Tria also ensures that the wireless module's lifespan matches that of the computer module, eliminating the expense incurred when wireless modules reach the end of their lifespan before the computer board.”.
The modules also leverage Tria's more than 10 years of experience integrating RF connectivity for embedded computing. Their pre-certification shortens time to market and reduces certification costs. Certification of a BlueZ software stack simplifies testing and ensures full compliance, making registration and licensing for the logo faster and more cost-effective.
