Bandwidth isn't the only innovation in the new oscilloscope families. Real-time oscilloscopes will include other key advancements, such as a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that enables higher vertical resolution of captured signals with ultra-high bandwidth, and more than one maximum bandwidth input channel per oscilloscope to allow for tighter channel synchronization. Keysight achieves these results thanks to its unique expertise in microwave semiconductor design and layout, oscilloscope architecture, and in-house manufacturing technology.
“Keysight continues to innovate in the indium phosphide process to deliver leading performance that addresses customers’ measurement needs,” said Jay Alexander, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Keysight Technologies. “Our expertise in microwave semiconductor technology has enabled us to deliver the next-generation indium phosphide process for a major advancement in real-time and equivalent-time oscilloscopes, and will drive significant developments in other Keysight products in the future.”.
Engineers working with next-generation, high-speed interfaces, such as the upcoming IEEE P802.3bs 400G standard and terabit coherent optical modulation, will need oscilloscopes for electrical parametric measurements. These and other technologies will play a key role in validating fifth-generation (5G) wireless designs. These interfaces will drive the need for high-performance, real-time, and equivalent-time signal analysis capabilities up to and beyond 100 GHz. As data transmission rates continue to increase beyond 56 Gb/s NRZ and 56 GBaud multilevel signaling, engineers will need not only greater bandwidth but also higher vertical resolution and lower noise levels to address validation challenges. New chipsets have been designed with these considerations in mind.
Six years ago, Keysight launched its first oscilloscope with chipsets integrated into the company's proprietary InP semiconductor process, and Keysight remains the only company producing oscilloscopes manufactured with InP chipsets. Investment in InP's next-generation process has enabled Keysight to increase transistor switching frequencies beyond 300 GHz, achieving higher bandwidths in both chips and end products.
“Keysight is investing in a completely new technology pipeline to meet our customers’ next-generation measurement needs,” said Dave Cipriani, Vice President and General Manager of Keysight’s Oscilloscope Business. “Our goal is to advance several performance parameters simultaneously. The next-generation oscilloscopes provide bandwidths starting at 80 GHz and going beyond 100 GHz. They will have lower noise density, enabling higher-resolution measurements on tightly synchronized multichannel systems. Whether customers are measuring higher transmission rates, higher-order QAM signals, or multichannel systems, these next-generation oscilloscopes will meet their needs.”.
Keysight currently offers high-performance Infiniium Z Series oscilloscopes with bandwidths up to 63 GHz and multi-channel equivalent-time oscilloscopes with bandwidths up to 70 GHz. You can find more information on Keysight Oscilloscopes.
