PXI's suite of tools for the defense and aerospace industries
The three new test instruments accompany the previous version of Astronics' PXIe-2461 frequency time interval counter and are the latest products of the NI and Astronics collaboration to offer PXI-based instruments with software compatible with test program sets (TPS) for existing VXI instruments.
“The challenge of reducing costs and preserving legacy investments in the face of rapid technological change requires industry collaborations for software success and compatibility,” said Luke Schreier, director of product marketing for automated testing at NI. “NI’s investment in LabVIEW and PXI yields modern capabilities, such as the newly commercialized second-generation Vector Signal Transceiver (VST), which are enhanced by Astronics’ expertise in integrating TPS and migrating critical legacy technologies to the PXI platform. The NI-Astronics collaboration builds on the strengths of both companies, but more importantly, it preserves technology investments for our mutual customers and fosters innovation.”.
The flagship product of this collaboration is the Astronics PXIe-6943 -2 to 7 V, 200 MB/s digital test instrument. The Astronics PXIe-6943 is modeled after the highly successful Astronics T940 digital resource modules based on VXI, which enable pattern-based digital testing in many commercial and government programs. These instruments are also compatible with TPS and legacy instruments from Astronics and other instrument vendors.
“Digital subsystems continue to play a crucial role in most aerospace and defense test platforms,” said Brian Price, executive vice president and general manager of ATS. “With the introduction of these new PXI Express products from Astronics, engineers can now expand existing test platforms to meet future aerospace and military requirements while preserving their original TPS investments. Our new digital subsystem incorporates the latest digital parallel, serial, and bus protocols, leveraging the high speed, small size, and lower cost of the PXI platform. These PXI instruments complement our already successful VXI instrument lineup, enabling us to support the aerospace and defense automated test systems of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”.
The newly introduced Astronics PXIe-3352 rubidium clock source combines a rubidium oscillator with a GPS receiver in a single, highly accurate instrument. The new Astronics PXIe-1209 pulse pattern generator is a high-performance, 2-channel, 100 MHz pulse generator that produces two independent pulses with very high resolution.
