The launch is the culmination of more than five years of extensive research and development efforts, a considerable investment that supports Allegro's mission to create a broad portfolio of innovative magnetic sensor ICs for high-growth applications in the automotive and industrial markets. The commitment to developing this platform has been further strengthened by a substantial investment in high-precision thin-film deposition tooling and equipment within an advanced BCD wafer manufacturing facility, where high-volume manufacturing has been implemented.
Allegro's A-xMR™ technology platform integrates highly sensitive MR (magnetoresistive) sensor elements and high-precision BiCMOS circuitry onto a single silicon integrated circuit. Through this integration, Allegro can combine our automotive-grade high-voltage wafer processes with high-precision, automotive-grade MR sensors. The result is a family of innovative, small-form-factor, highly reliable monolithic integrated circuits that easily fit into industry-standard IC packages.
Allegro's A-GMR™ technology was designed to withstand the harsh environment of automotive engines. A-GMR™ technology is thermally stable at temperatures exceeding 150°C, even in the presence of strong magnetic fields. This platform paves the way for Allegro to expand its product offerings into speed, current, and angle sensing applications.

Allegro's first-generation A-xMR™ ring magnet speed sensor ICs are now in production at a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier of wheel speed sensors. These integrated circuits are based on Allegro's proprietary signal processing algorithms to meet the needs of both standard and standard wheel speed direction sensing platforms. The GMR technology enables low-jitter rotational speed measurements that are not possible with Hall effect ICs.
Allegro is actively developing reverse-biased monolithic GMR sensors for advanced engine management and transmission gear speed sensing applications, where the same low jitter measurements and high "air gap" performance are essential for advanced transmission system operation.
Allegro also recently launched its first GMR-based current sensor IC, a device capable of resolving currents of less than 1 mA, and has plans to leverage MR technology to further stand out in the monolithic current sensor IC market.
