The DOMOTYS cluster is a voluntary, non-profit business group that promotes the competitiveness of companies in the fields of home automation (smart homes), building automation (smart buildings), and Smart Cities.
The Home and Building Automation Working Group met on February 9th in Barcelona. The objective of this Working Group was to build upon the work of previous committees and groups, such as the Control, Monitoring and Security Committee, the Active Aging Committee, and the Sustainable Construction Committee, from a fresh perspective, thus providing them with more specific content tailored to the needs of their members.
The Working Group began with the presentation of each of its attendees in order to facilitate networking, introducing companies, their typical client, what they can contribute to the cluster and their expectations.
After the minutes dedicated to the presentations, they proceeded to present the projects they are currently working on, such as the progress made in the project they are carrying out on the Awareness Campaign on the Benefits of Home and Building Automation, which will soon be released.
This campaign aims to address one of the major problems facing the sector: end users' reluctance to demand these solutions due to fear of high prices. This problem stems from a lack of public awareness regarding the actual costs. To fill this information gap, an informative video was created and presented to this Working Group, and a success story guide was prepared where members can share their experiences and propose solutions to help alleviate these unfounded fears. In addition to
these two tools, a website is under development that will be populated with all the materials produced and is intended to be a communication tool that will benefit all members. It will incorporate real-world information on home automation solutions, and creating educational content was established as a priority. Furthermore, the lack of certification for home automation installers was noted.
The next item on the group's agenda was the discussion of the three demand generation workshops planned for this year in the hospital, hotel, and office sectors.
Subsequently, various industry trends identified by the Cluster were addressed, with the aim of understanding the opinions of its members and initiating related activities. Attention was primarily focused on three trends: Smart Home solutions being developed by major companies such as Google, Amazon, and Apple; collaboration with insurance companies; and active aging.
Domotys aims to reaffirm its role as a hub for technologies and companies, a catalyst for projects and synergies among its members, and ultimately, a driving force in the sector. To this end, the Working Group concluded with a discussion on updating the value chain, leveraging the strategic planning initiated by Secarys and Domotys. This will allow for more effective segmentation of its members, identification of weaker points in the chain, and more efficient efforts to connect members with one another.
