The collaboration between Kontron and Qualcomm Technologies aims to drive advancements across multiple industries, including automotive, industrial automation, rail, and smart cities. By leveraging Qualcomm Technologies' 5G, AI, and cutting-edge computing capabilities, Kontron is enhancing its integrated solutions to meet the evolving demands of these sectors. The effort focuses on developing platforms that enable businesses to utilize AI, machine learning, and next-generation connectivity to create more efficient and secure operations.
With Kontron's first proprietary 5G industrial broadband M.2 card ready for sampling in Q2 2025, Kontron continues to develop solutions for diverse IoT vertical markets (including FRMCS). Based on Qualcomm Technologies' SDX72 5G chipset, it supports industrial features to meet the requirements of the IoT ecosystem. Through its close partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Kontron is expanding its portfolio of high-performance, security-focused embedded solutions tailored to industrial IoT applications.
The planned product line includes COM Express modules with Snapdragon® X Elite processors, designed for high-performance computing; COM-HPC Mini solutions with Qualcomm Dragonwing™ IQ 9 and IQ 8 Series processors, providing scalable performance for connected systems; and SMARC and OSM modules with Qualcomm Dragonwing™ IQ 6 Series processors, offering compact and energy-efficient solutions for industrial applications. Additionally, motherboards with Snapdragon X Elite technology are being developed specifically for the industrial PC (IPC) sector. While these products are still in the planning stage, Kontron is actively developing them with support from Qualcomm Technologies, and their launch is expected in the near future.
A key aspect of the cooperation is the targeted expansion of Kontron's high-performance, low-power processor segment in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies. This initiative allows Kontron to further diversify its embedded product portfolio and address a broader range of customer needs. Qualcomm Technologies processors are already being integrated into several ongoing projects, enhancing cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities and data processing in demanding industrial environments.
