The acquisition was announced by Ogi Redzic, director of the Alliance's connected vehicles and mobility services department.
"The Sylpheo team of software developers and engineers joining the Alliance will have a unique opportunity to work on our next generation of connected vehicles, as well as other cutting-edge technologies," says Redzic.
"They will play a key role in the new era of major changes the automotive industry is experiencing."
By 2020, the Alliance will have launched more than ten vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technology. Once this connected vehicle technology is more widespread, it will enhance the driver experience and enable the Alliance to offer innovative services to its customers, continuously improving its competitiveness.
This acquisition is the Alliance's latest step in accelerating this development. Following Redzic's appointment in January to lead the mobility and connectivity services team, the world's fourth-largest automaker launched a recruitment campaign to hire 300 technology experts.
"The Sylpheo team, comprised of 40 engineers and consultants, will bring expertise in software development and cloud engineering to the company. The technology they work with will allow us to offer better products and services to our customers, making us more competitive. The acquisition of Sylpheo is just one of the many initiatives the Renault-Nissan Alliance is undertaking to ensure its continued leadership in innovation within the automotive sector," Redzic added.
