In order to provide an optimized operational strategy, both technologically and economically, hydrogen can be used as a CO2-neutral energy source, applicable in industry, transportation, commerce, and homes. This is why developing an efficient, reliable, and durable electrolyzer is so crucial.
It is at this point that SEGULA Technologies becomes the industrial partner, designing a customized test bench and developing all the corresponding infrastructure. Meanwhile, the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Hydrogen Research Institute of the Université Québec à Trois-Rivières will develop the fuel cell, while Pulsenics Inc., a Toronto-based startup, will be responsible for developing the electrochemical characterization tool.
SEGULA Technologies will develop the electrolyzer and battery test platform under different operating and usage conditions to obtain various data on the aging process at different power levels. Furthermore, it will optimize the electrolyzer's operational and functional strategy with the help of its scientific partner, the Energy Technology Centre (ZET) at the University of Bayreuth.
Based on the collected data, a digital twin will be developed and optimized at the Integrated Energy Systems Institute at the University of Victoria (Canada) and the NRC. The expertise and cooperation of the international partners will enable the development of new hardware and software solutions aimed at reducing the costs of electrolyzers during their production and operation.
