ultra-battery-31-1100-wThe 24-volt ESM enables reliable starting and operation of vehicles in cold weather and with infrequent starts.
This new product builds upon the successful 12-volt module and offers advantages for diesel engines used in the transportation, construction, military, agricultural, forestry, and mining industries.
Diesel engines are difficult to start after extended periods of inactivity or in low temperatures. The 24-volt module takes over the starting and running function of the engine by remaining fully charged even if the battery voltage is very low.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) integrating the 24-volt ESM will improve vehicle quality and increase their customers' productivity by helping them avoid the common problems associated with lead-acid batteries used to start diesel engines.

Two 24-volt ESM models are available: the ULTRA 31/900/24V for starting diesel engines up to 12.5 liters and the ULTRA 31/1100/24V for engines up to 15.0 liters. Both are in a BCI 31 group format.
Unlike batteries, which produce and store energy through a chemical reaction, ultracapacitors store energy in an electric field. This electrostatic energy storage mechanism allows ultracapacitors to charge and discharge in fractions of a second, operate normally over a wide temperature range (from -40°C to +65°C), function reliably for up to 1 million or more charge-discharge cycles, and withstand shock and vibration. Maxwell offers ultracapacitor cells with capacities from 1 to 3400 farads and multi-cell modules from 12 to 160 volts.
