However, despite their high durability, and due to their weight and size, they have been losing ground to lithium-ion batteries. Among the latter, we find the Li NMC battery (lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide battery), which, due to the nature of its alloy, has a high energy density. However, its lifespan is short and, moreover, it presents a high safety and health risk. The innovative and acclaimed LFP battery, lithium iron phosphate, stands out, chosen by NERVA for its entry into the world of electric motorcycles.
The newly established Spanish brand has launched its first electric GT scooter, the NERVA EXE, which incorporates two LFP batteries manufactured by the Asian giant BYD. These batteries offer several advantages:
• They are highly safe thanks to their superior thermal stability (they cannot burn or explode), which is one of their main differences and advantages compared to other recent batteries.
• This greater safety translates into slower degradation, resulting in a greater number of cycles and increased range.
• Furthermore, these batteries have significantly reduced toxicity and are much more sustainable than others, as their composition does not include cobalt, manganese, or nickel.
• The NERVA EXE's LFP batteries are designed to have a second life as energy storage in charitable projects. After five years of use in the scooter, they are given a second life in projects of the EKI FOUNDATION.
• Finally, and related to this, the NERVA EXE batteries come with a warranty that covers these five years, which is a significant advantage and provides enormous peace of mind for the user.
Thanks to the addition of these batteries, which have a total capacity of 5.76 kWh, providing a voltage of 76.8 V and a current of 75 Ah, the EXE is a safe e-scooter with a range of up to 150 km on a single charge.
The vehicle has L3e homologation, a power output of 9 kW (12 kW peak), and a top speed of up to 125 km/h.
