image1webThe EMIC System (a finalist in the Smart Building category), developed by the Convehidor Consortium, has as its main competitive advantage the fact that it consists of up to four independent batteries to equip a scooter. Each of these batteries (weighing just 4 kg) is removable and rechargeable at home or at work, as well as being able to be charged online like any other electric vehicle. This avoids lengthy charging times where the vehicle has to be stationary, as well as the need to locate and depend on charging points. Likewise, the ability to charge it at home avoids fast charging, a common culprit in shortening the lifespan of this type of battery.

image2webSaft's second finalist product in the Matelec Awards is the Intensium Max system, which allows for the storage of renewable energy up to a Megawatt level, overcoming the intermittent generation of renewable energies by providing a source to cover peak demand or production dips. In fact, an Acciona solar park in Tudela, Spain, already features this innovative system, and a second leading European project—STORE, led by Endesa in Gran Canaria—is currently under construction. The Intensium Max containers are finalists for the MATELEC Awards in the Industrial Switchgear category.
