“EMIC System modules each provide approximately 25 kilometers of range and can be removed and charged separately without the vehicle having to be stopped,” says Joaquín Chacón, CEO of Saft Baterías. “However, this is a solution for individuals, institutions, or companies with limited vehicle usage. There is another scenario that requires a customized solution, which is the case for companies with intensive vehicle use. Imagine a courier or food delivery company with its own fleet. In these cases, it is much faster and simpler to drop off an empty cartridge and pick up a new one, which is what the charging station developed within Convehidor is designed to do.”.

In this way, the EMIC System for scooters becomes a 24/7 electric mobility solution with solid economic arguments, since a scooter equipped with the EMIC System has an average cost of 0.60 euros per 100 kilometers (compared to approximately 2 euros for a similar vehicle with an internal combustion engine), in addition to reducing the need for mechanical maintenance to practically zero.

“In a small company with five scooters equipped with the EMIC System, where each vehicle travels an average of 100 kilometers daily, 7 days a week, the monthly savings in fuel alone would amount to around 200 euros (reducing current expenses by 70%). This doesn't even take into account the mechanical issues that typically arise from intensive vehicle use,” says Joaquín Chacón. “And this is completely scalable. So, in the case of large courier companies or restaurant chains specializing in home delivery, we could be talking about savings of hundreds of thousands or even millions of euros per year.”.

Winner at the MATELEC Awards for Innovation and Energy Efficiency
The EMIC System has recently received the award for most innovative product in the Smart Building category at the MATELEC Awards for Innovation and Energy Efficiency, which brought together the main new products on the market presented at one of the leading trade fairs for the electrical and electronics industry worldwide.

The main competitive advantage of the EMIC system compared to other electric vehicle products currently on the market lies in its modularity. It consists of independent batteries; each one (weighing just 4 kg) is removable and individually rechargeable, like a laptop at home or work, and can also be charged together, as in any other electric vehicle. This eliminates lengthy charging times that require the vehicle to be stationary, as well as the need to locate and rely on charging points, providing a real and economical solution for both occasional and intensive use in the sustainable mobility market.

CONVEHIDOR, the consortium that has developed this innovative product, is made up of the companies Saft Baterías, Ticnova, Ecomotive, Jofemar and Abengoa together with the Energy Technical Institute (ITE) of Valencia, the aiTIIP Technology Center (Zaragoza) and the Research, Development and Innovation Group of Electrical and Electronic Power Systems of the University of Extremadura.
