The presentation took place during the company's first Tech Day, held in Bratislava, where customers, technology partners and potential investors were able to learn about the results of its research and development activities and visit the storage system.
According to Rudolf Sihlovec, CEO of INO-HUB Energy, the company's goal is to move its technological developments from the laboratory to commercial solutions for the industry and energy sector.
Vanadium batteries with a lifespan exceeding 25 years
Vanadium redox flow batteries store energy using an aqueous electrolyte containing vanadium salts. One of their main characteristics is that they allow for independent sizing of the energy capacity and power of the system, facilitating adaptation to different storage needs. Among their advantages are a lifespan that can exceed 25 years under appropriate operating conditions, as well as their ability to withstand numerous charge and discharge cycles without significant capacity loss.
Furthermore, this technology offers a high level of safety by avoiding the risks of thermal runaway and explosion associated with certain battery technologies.
INO-HUB Energy points out that, while the initial investment is an important factor, the economic evaluation must consider the total cost of storage over its entire lifespan. The possibility of reusing the electrolyte also contributes to improving its competitiveness compared to other electrochemical solutions.
A project backed by European funding
The development of this technology is part of a research project notified by the European Commission as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI). During the event, Peter Stano, Head of the European Commission Representation in Slovakia, highlighted that the project has received over €17 million in European funding. The initiative aims to promote technologies that contribute to energy security and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy sources into electricity grids.
According to data from SolarPower Europe cited by the company, operational battery storage capacity in Europe exceeded 100 GWh by the end of 2025 and could reach 582 GWh in 2030, according to the intermediate forecast scenario.
Intelligent storage management with AORTA+ and DigiTwin
In addition to its battery developments, INO-HUB Energy offers its proprietary software, AORTA+, which uses artificial intelligence to simulate, optimize, and manage energy systems. The tool analyzes each client's electricity generation and consumption profiles and combines this information with DigiTwin, a digital twin solution, to size systems according to their needs. This approach optimizes energy consumption, reduces operating costs, and improves the profitability of installations.
New manufacturing plant in Slovakia
Founded in 2019, INO-HUB Energy develops battery technologies and commercial energy storage systems (BESS). The company collaborates on research with Pavol Jozef Šafárik University of Košice, Košice Technical University, and Žilina University, particularly in the development of new generations of flow batteries and the improvement of their cells. As part of its expansion, it plans to build an industrial facility in Kysucké Nové Mesto, dedicated to the research, development, and manufacturing of battery assemblies and power units.
