rechargeable-battery-stmicroelectronics-efl700a39The new STMicroelectronics EFL700A39 rechargeable lithium battery, available at Mouser Electronics, is one of the thinnest batteries of its kind. The battery features a lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2) cathode, giving it a higher capacity for its size; a lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LiPON) ceramic electrolyte, which helps increase the battery's overall energy density; and a lithium anode. The EnFilm battery has an internal resistance of only 100 ohms.

The EnFilm is a solid-state battery designed to be ultra-thin. It boasts a fast recharge time, reaching 80% capacity in just 20 minutes with a 4.2V charging voltage. The EnFilm battery exhibits low capacity loss over its long lifespan. In storage, the EnFilm loses only 3% of its charge over a year, which can be recovered with a single recharge. Over a ten-year lifespan, the battery will lose 20% of its capacity, like most lithium batteries.

The EnFilm battery is fully compliant with the IEC 62133 safety standard for non-acid batteries. It also meets the ISO 7816 mechanical standard and the IEC 10373 flexibility standard for smart cards.

Target applications for these EnFilm batteries include Internet of Things (IoT) applications, sensors and sensor networks, smart card applications, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, energy harvesting devices, non-implantable medical devices, backup power, and wearable applications.
