The MCP331x1(D)-xx family, designed for operation in high-temperature and electromagnetically intense environments, includes the only fully AEC-Q100 compliant 16-bit SAR on the market, capable of delivering the reliability required by automotive and industrial applications. The MCP6D11 differential amplifier provides a low-distortion, high-precision interface to achieve maximum A/D converter performance in these systems.

The MCP331x1(D)-xx family features 12-, 14-, and 16-bit resolutions, as well as optional sampling rates from 500 kilosamples per second (ksps) to 1 Msps, allowing developers to choose the most suitable A/D converter for their designs. A fixed low analog supply voltage (AVDD) of 1.8V and low active current operation, typically 1.6 mA at 1 Msps and 1.4 mA at 500 ksps, enable this A/D converter family to be characterized by extremely low power consumption and a wide full-scale input range.

These devices support a wide range of digital I/O interface voltages (DVIO) from 1.7V to 5.5V, allowing connection to most host devices, including Microchip's PIC32, AVR®, and Arm®-based microcontrollers and microprocessors.

This eliminates the need for external voltage level converters. The MCP331x1(D)-xx family offers single-ended and differential input voltage measurement options, enabling systems to convert the difference between any two arbitrary waveforms. This AEC-Q100-approved family, ideal for applications such as high-precision data acquisition, electric vehicle battery management, motor control, and switched-mode power supplies, delivers reliable performance in harsh environments.

Connecting a small analog signal to a high-speed, high-resolution A/D converter without adding noise and distortion is a significant challenge. Microchip's MCP6D11 differential amplifier is specifically designed to address this challenge with a low-distortion, high-precision interface to the A/D converter.

The MCP331x1D-XX evaluation kit is now available to demonstrate the performance of the MCP331x1D-XX SAR A/D converter family. The evaluation kit consists of:

• MCP331x1D evaluation board
• PIC32MZ EF MCU Curiosity data acquisition board
• SAR ADC Utility PC graphical user interface

Each A/D converter is supplied in a 10-MSOP package with leads in a 3 mm x 3 mm package or a 10-TDFN package without leads in a 3 mm x 3 mm package. The 9 mm² size is the smallest on the market for a 16-bit, 1 Msps differential A/D converter. The MCP6D11 is supplied in 8-MSOP or 16-QFN packages of 3 mm x 3 mm.
The MCP331x1(D)-xx evaluation kit is available for $175.
