The integrated EEPROM allows the DAC settings to be recalled upon power connection for greater system flexibility. The option of 8, 10, or 12-bit resolution provides flexibility in striking the right balance between functionality and cost, while the buffered output allows for selectable gain of 1 or 2 and offers rail-to-rail output. Low power consumption of 210 µA extends battery life, and the available small packages reduce the printed circuit board footprint.
To expedite the development of MCP47x6 DACs, the $24.99 PICtail™ Plus daughterboard (ADM00317) incorporates the 8-bit MCP4706, 10-bit MCP4716, and 12-bit MCP4726. The board allows connection of the Explorer 16 Starter Kit (DV164033) for 16- and 32-bit PIC® microcontrollers or the PICkit™ Serial Analyzer (DV164122) to read and write DAC registers using the PICkit Serial Analyzer PC software.
