Address conflicts arise when slaves with the same hardwired address are placed on the same bus. Traditional solutions have used I2C multiplexers or switches to select, via software or pins, which slave needs addressing. The LTC4316-18 are transparent solutions that replace I2C multiplexers and switches. The LTC4316/LTC4317/LTC4318 do not require software programming or ENABLE control lines, allowing masters to make direct calls to slaves using unique, converted addresses configured by external resistors.
The address converters provide easy address expansion for I2C and SMBus systems, as well as voltage level conversion for 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5V buses. The ±4kV HBM electrostatic discharge capability, 1V precharge, and bus pin interference filtering make the address converters robust enough for plug-and-play board applications. A pass-through mode allows users to temporarily disable address conversion and perform general call addressing by the master. Additionally, a bus-lock timer monitors whether the SCL line is low or high for more than 30ms, cancels address conversion, and reconnects SDAIN to SDAOUT if a bus-lock condition occurs.
