A dual-channel synchronous rectification topology offers up to 95% efficiency, and its Burst Mode® operation keeps quiescent current below 6.5µA (with both channels active) under no-load standby conditions, making it ideal for always-on systems. The switching frequency can be programmed between 200kHz and 3MHz and is synchronizable throughout its range.
The LT8616's minimal on-time of 35ns enables step-down conversions from 16VIN to 1.8VOUT, while its 2MHz switching frequency helps designers avoid noise-sensitive critical frequency bands, such as AM radio, and it remains a very compact solution. Its input voltage range of 3.4V to 42V makes it ideal for automotive applications that need to regulate conditions such as cold starts and stop-start systems with minimum input voltages as low as 3.4V and load dump transients exceeding 40V. Each channel of the LT8616 maintains a minimum de-excitation voltage of only 400mV (at 1A) under all conditions, making it particularly well-suited for situations like cold starts in automobiles. The LT8616's thermally advanced 28-pin TSSOP package and high switching frequency allow for small external inductors and capacitors, resulting in a compact and thermally efficient footprint.
The LT8616 utilizes high-efficiency dual power switches on the top and bottom, along with the necessary boost diodes, oscillator, logic, and control circuitry, all integrated onto a single semiconductor chip. Each channel switches 180 degrees out of phase to reduce output ripple. Each channel has a separate input for added design flexibility. Low-ripple burst mode operation maintains high efficiency with low output currents and output ripple below 15 mVp-p. Unique design techniques and a new high-speed manufacturing process enable high efficiency across a wide input voltage range, and the LT8616's current-mode topology provides fast transient response and excellent loop stability. Additional features include internal compensation, power-right indicators, output tracking/soft start, and thermal protection.
The LT8616 is supplied in a thermally advanced
28-pin TSSOP package. Three temperature levels are available, operating between -40°C and 125°C (junction) for the extended (E) and industrial (I) levels, and one high-temperature (H) level from -40°C to 150°C.
