The 30-amp EM1130 is the first in a family of integrated digital DC-DC buck converters that provide power management for Altera's FPGA generation, specifically for the Arria® 10 and Stratix® 10 FPGA cores and transceiver power supply. A result of Altera's successful acquisition of power IC company Enpirion, Inc. in 2013, the EM1130 digital power management device represents a significant milestone in Altera's effort to deliver unprecedented optimized power solutions to the automation market.
The EM1130 offers the industry's densest footprint, delivering high output regulation and fast transient response. These features enable FPGA-based systems to meet the most stringent performance, power management, and solution size requirements. PMBus provides the interface for Altera SmartVID™ technology, allowing the converter to deliver a lower voltage (VCC) to Arria 10 and Stratix 10 FPGAs for greater power savings while maintaining device speed performance at the specified grade. Additionally, the PMBus interface enables the EM1130 to communicate with the telemetry system to provide measurements of key parameters such as current, voltage, and temperature.
The EM1130 offers significant benefits, including:
• 50% smaller than other modules in its grade, with a 2-4% efficiency improvement that allows customers to increase system throughput.
• A 30–50% improvement in telemetry accuracy (current and voltage measurement) allows customers to extend the performance range of their systems.
• Adaptive control technology reduces external compensation components and automatically adjusts to provide a robust solution regardless of changing operating conditions.
• An easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) simplifies programming for design engineers.
