The new BCM6123TD1E2663Txx expands Vicor's family of high-voltage bus converters to include the new K = 1/8 (384-48VNOM), K = 1/32 (384-12VNOM) and K = 1/16 (384-24VNOM), highlighted in the table below:
[A] These are offered in a through-hole form factor.
Vicor's family of high-voltage bus converters, which targets industrial, telecom, and lighting applications, provides system designers with a simple and cost-effective means of creating common 12V, 24V, and 48V bus voltages directly from 384VDC.
Based on the patented "Sine-Amplitude" Converter topology, the high-voltage BCM chips are capable of achieving peak efficiencies of 98% and power densities of up to 2400 W/in³. These flexible modules can be easily paralleled in high-power arrays, and the outputs can be connected in series to achieve a higher VOUT. Furthermore, the high-voltage BCMs are available with either an analog or digital signal interface and all have an operating temperature range of -40°C to 100°C.
Since all Vicor BCMs are bidirectional, designers have the opportunity to incorporate this unique feature into new designs to enhance system functionality.
Finally, the high-voltage BCMs allow designers to reduce the amount of mass capacitance required at the load by utilizing the low AC impedance of the sine-amplitude converter relative to the down-flow regulator, effectively reflecting the capacitance across the module.
With the new K = 1/16 model, 500 μF of 24V load-point capacitance can be effectively provided by 2 μF on the primary side of the module.
