The AFIK-1002 evaluation kit, sold exclusively by RS, contains everything needed to quickly configure wireless links using self-powered switches, as well as to test key parameters such as signal strength and range in custom applications. The kit includes a switching device, bipolar antenna, volume module generator, SMD antenna, receiver circuit board, and a USB cable. An instruction manual is also included. For the first time, all components will also be available for individual purchase from RS, allowing customers to build their own wireless switches.
“This comprehensive development kit and Cherry’s line of high-quality energy harvesting products, from the world-renowned brand, further strengthens our support for emerging sectors such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and home automation,” commented Kevin McCormack, Global Head of IP&E at RS Components. “We have exclusive distribution rights for the kit for the first 12 months, which is a significant achievement for RS and a great opportunity to build close relationships with product developers who are currently working on new designs.”.
“RS has numerous customers closely linked to our target market; typically engineers who need a user-friendly and completely independent solution to their remote control challenges,” explains Mark Mills, European Distribution Manager at Cherry. “Therefore, our exclusive agreement is key to increasing sales and establishing close relationships with new customers.”.
The 868MHz Self-Powered Spring Rocker Switches, as well as the 868MHz receiver module, are also available individually. The switches transmit at low power, typically 10-14 dBm, and up to 100 kbit/s. Each has a unique 32-bit ID, allowing multiple switches to be paired with one receiver or one switch to be paired with multiple receivers.
When in operation, the circuit breakers have up to three transmission lines, powered by energy stored from the mechanical drive. No battery or power supply is required, allowing for virtually maintenance-free use throughout their lifespan (up to 1 million operations).
The receiver is available as a board or complete module. Its various outputs, including a TTL output, a low-voltage relay output, and RS-232 and RS-485 bus outputs, allow the unit to be easily connected to different equipment.
In addition, the RF generator with power harvesting located at the core of each switch is available separately, with or without RF electronics, in a module format that allows engineers to add self-powered wireless communication capabilities to other types of switches.
