The first products in the MICROSTACK range provide GPS positioning, accelerometer and prototype modules.
MICROSTACK was created by the designers of the original PiFace Digital and PiFace Control & Display accessories for Raspberry Pi and the recent PiFace revisions for Raspberry Pi Model B+. MICROSTACK builds on the simple yet powerful PiFace ethos, offering many more possibilities in a more connected world.
MICROSTACK is a family of stackable, compact, reusable accessory boards with a common form factor, software, and connection interface, built on a dedicated motherboard platform (adapter board) for the Raspberry Pi. The MICROSTACK motherboard for Raspberry Pi brings the MICROSTACK family to the Raspberry Pi, enabling the first in a series of accessories, including GPS, accelerometer, and Proto functions, to be connected.
The MICROSTACK GPS module provides an easy plug-and-play solution for designs requiring GPS positioning for geolocation projects. The module includes data logging and a globally synchronized, high-precision timer for Raspberry Pi. It features an ultra-thin Patch-on-Top (POT) module with an integrated 15x15mm patch antenna and external socket, making it one of the most advanced and complete GPS modules available for beginners.
The MICROSTACK Accelerometer module offers easy plug-and-play integration and facilitates the development of designs requiring an accelerometer, such as robotics, tilt sensors, gaming, and motion tracking. It is based on a low-power, 3-axis, low-g MMA8491Q accelerometer, offering 14-bit ±8g multi-range resolution.
The MICROSTACK Protoboard module is a prototyping module that allows users to create their own circuit designs for use with the Microstack form factor.
The highly integrated, low-power MICROSTACK modules can also be used on breadboards or integrated into fully customized PCBs, providing a prototyping solution for production. Furthermore, like PiFace, MICROSTACK can attract the same beginners that Raspberry Pi has drawn to this market, while also providing powerful building blocks that reduce development time for engineers.
The user-friendly supporting software, with easy-to-install example solutions, demonstrates the power of MICROSTACK in just five lines of Python.
