The Blackfin ADSP-BF70x family is based on a new Blackfin+ core from Analog Devices, which supports 16- and 32-bit fixed-point processing, along with numerous performance enhancements. With 800 MMACS of processing power at less than 100 mW, this advanced core delivers twice the performance with half the power consumption compared to its competitors.
The flagship model in the family is the ADSP-BF707, which features 1 MB of integrated SRAM and 512 KB of L2 ROM, eliminating the need for external memory in many applications. It includes a 16-bit L3 interface to external DDR2 or LPDDR SDRAM devices. Extensive peripheral integration includes a 4-channel, 12-bit 1MSPS ADC, a USB 2.0 OTG controller, two CAN2.0B interfaces, an ePPI video interface, and an I2S audio interface. It also boasts robust security features, such as hardware encryption accelerators for fast and secure booting, and IP protection and memDMA encryption/decryption to maintain security during operation.
The ADSP-BF70x family is ideal for portable, power-constrained applications, especially those requiring real-time, deterministic response. These include imaging applications such as barcode scanners, CMOS cameras, biometric sensors, patient monitors, smart lighting, in-car audio systems, voice recorders, and professional musical equipment like effects pedals.
Also available from RS with 24-hour delivery is the ADSP-BF707 EZ-KIT Lite evaluation hardware, giving customers a head start in using these new devices. The kit contains the ADSP-BF707 EZ-Board™, the ADZS-ICE-1000 emulator, a CE-certified power supply, and a USB cable, and is designed for use with the CrossCore® Embedded Studio (CCES) software development tools and the ADSP-BF707 support package.
