This chipset provides flexibility with faster reconfiguration to reduce factory downtime.
Maxim Integrated's chipset solution for the MAX22000 and MAX22515 models leverages the benefits of the IO-Link universal two-way interface. The IO-Link interface allows each IO-Link sensor, actuator, or expansion module to be interchangeable with a standard hardware interface. It also provides software-defined performance parameters and selectable analog input or output performance modes. These software-selectable capabilities are combined and demonstrated in the MAXREFDES177# IO-Link reference design.

IO-Link and software-configurable IO products:

MAX22000: The software-configurable analog I/O provides up to half the power savings and is approximately half the size compared to the most competitive solutions on the market. Key integrated features include a 24-bit analog ADC input mode and an 18-bit analog DAC output mode, as well as operation via a single 2-wire interface or a 4-wire resistance temperature detector (RTD)/thermocouple temperature measurement.

MAX22515: The MAX22515 is the industry's smallest ±1.2kV/500Ω surge-protected, single-channel IO-Link transceiver. It features high integration with protection diodes, an auxiliary digital input, I2Cor pin control, an integrated oscillator, and a selectable 3.3V or 5V LDO, all of which contribute to high configurability and a smaller SKU. It allows for half the power dissipation due to the low 2.2Ω or 2.65Ω (type) driver C/Q on-resistance compared to the closest competitor, all within a smaller 2.5mm x 2.0mm WLP package. This reduces solution size by up to 67 percent compared to the closest competitor, making it suitable for small, space-constrained IO-Link sensors or actuators.

Key Advantages
- Flexibility: Software-configurable IO-Links and the ability to adjust device parameters on the fly provide new ways to dynamically optimize machine performance and reduce factory downtime.
- High Efficiency: The MAX22000 and MAX22515 are optimized for best-in-class energy savings, using up to half the energy for the MAX22000 and half the power dissipation for the MAX22515.
- Small Size: The MAX22515 provides the smallest single-channel IO-Link footprint at 5 mm², while the MAX22000 has an 86 mm² footprint.
