Users can easily verify S32G's performance with real-time use cases and monitoring of available resources. NXP's pre-integrated software, along with open-source and third-party software, including secure cloud connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) update services, allows developers to focus on creating new services for connected vehicles rather than on software infrastructure. Together with the S32G Reference Design Board (RDB2) or the GoldBox Reference Design for service-oriented gateways, users can more easily develop product prototypes for applications directly on a computer, in a lab, or in vehicles.
Why it matters: The automotive industry's shift toward software-defined vehicles that integrate ECU consolidation, data-driven vehicle services, secure cloud connectivity, and service-oriented architecture demands new strategies for in-vehicle software development. Automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers face new challenges related to multi-tenant technologies, network management, cloud services, functional security, and advanced security. NXP helps overcome these challenges with GoldVIP's pre-integrated software, including that supplied by Airbiquity, Amazon Web Services, Argus Cyber Security, and Elektrobit.
GoldVIP's pre-integration provides a platform that abstracts the hardware, enabling developers to immediately create new vehicle-specific services. GoldVIP integrates standard and reference S32G software, as well as the Xen Project® Type 1 hypervisor, to provide isolated Linux® virtual machines. The vehicle integration platform offers a high degree of flexibility and adaptability based on the Linux ecosystem and allows the installation of Linux applications in user space on the same platform. It also provides an environment for rapid prototyping with Java and Python, supported by local and cloud-based graphical user interfaces and secure cloud connectivity.
Third-party software integration includes the Airbiquity OTAmatic® client for over-the-air (OTA) updates, the AWS IoT Greengrass V2 edge runtime service for secure cloud services, the Elektrobit tresos AUTOSAR Classic platform, and the Argus Cyber Security Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) for CAN and Ethernet.
Real-time use cases: GoldVIP includes several real-time use cases to demonstrate the value proposition of the S32G processors, as well as local and cloud-based visualization to monitor key metrics such as processor performance, memory usage, network bandwidth, and chip temperature. Key use cases include CAN and Ethernet gateways with and without network acceleration and intrusion detection, statistical data monitoring with the NXP SJA1110 Ethernet switch, vehicle-to-cloud data telemetry, and cloud-to-vehicle OTA updates.
Future plans: GoldVIP can scale by integrating new capabilities to meet emerging market needs and continue supporting customers' efforts in developing software-defined vehicle (SV) applications. NXP plans to expand GoldVIP with support for the AUTOSAR adaptive platform, machine learning inference with NXP's eIQ® Auto Deep Learning tool, and container orchestration to accelerate the deployment of in-vehicle services. The platform is also expected to extend its capabilities by integrating third-party software in future releases.
“The new S32G GoldVIP platform offers a tremendous level of software and information integration that can accelerate our customers' and partners' silicon evaluation and software development efforts,” said Brian Carlson, Global Marketing Director for NXP's Vehicle Networking and Control Solutions business. “GoldVIP raises the bar for silicon-based software to meet the needs of SVs and provides a scalable platform for the rapid development of new vehicle services.”
