The accuracy of the current sensing, especially at low currents, allows for precise monitoring of the charging current to provide additional data to the microcontroller in diagnostic applications. Typical examples include open charging circuit detection, overload warnings, and motor shutdown. Furthermore, the AUIR3316S offers a slow-switching version of the AUIR3313S, which helps minimize noise in EMI-sensitive automotive applications.
The AUIR331x family includes comprehensive protection features to ensure safe and reliable operation in applications up to 30 A continuous and 90 A peak. The precise current sensing function adds value to microprocessor-based systems and modules by enhancing their diagnostic capabilities.
In addition to current sensing signal feedback, the AUIR331x family integrates over-temperature and overcurrent shutdown to enable repetitive operation in the event of a short circuit, in accordance with the latest AEC Q100-012 standard. In many applications, additional protective devices such as fuses can be omitted. The overcurrent protection function is programmable, allowing for optimization based on load or application requirements.
It is important to note that in the case of a reverse-connected battery, an integrated protection circuit switches the main MOSFET into conduction, thus helping to overcome the effect of the intrinsic structural diode and reduce or eliminate thermal problems. Other features, such as ESD protection and an active blocking circuit, ensure safe operation and protection against adverse automotive operating conditions.
IR's automotive IPS products undergo dynamic and static device averaging testing, as well as 100% automated wafer visual inspection, as part of IR's Automotive Quality Initiative, which aims for zero defects. The new devices are certified to AEC-Q100 standards and feature an environmentally friendly, lead-free, and RoHS-compliant materials list.
