Equipment cards1The main topologies it can control are: (2) W1C, B2HK, or B2HKF. This module is designed to trigger two thyristors in a single-phase static converter. The thyristors can be triggered at any point during the sine wave period (instantaneous triggering) and deactivated when the load current crosses zero. The APTT-842M module requires an external +12VDC, 250mA power supply and a 12VDC trigger control signal that triggers the thyristors and deactivates them with a 0VDC signal. The module has a visual LED indicator to show when the APTT-842M is triggered or deactivated. This control module triggers all types of commercially available thyristors. Its physical dimensions are 76cm x 45cm x 28cm (height).

EquipmentCards2The SKW3ZC board is a three-phase board with pulse transformer outputs and galvanic isolation of 4 kVA, designed to trigger three anti-parallel thyristor branches in a W3C configuration. One of its applications is as a static converter for zero-crossing switching on and off in each phase for resistive and capacitive loads. It operates at a voltage of 230 V AC or 400 V AC (+10% or -20%) and at a frequency of 50 Hz to 60 Hz. It has a built-in 12 V DC auxiliary control voltage and can be controlled with an external voltage of 8 V DC to 30 V DC with a maximum current of 50 mA. It features two LEDs: a green power indicator and a yellow trigger indicator. It weighs 420 grams and consumes 9 VA, with a built-in fuse for protection. It triggers the entire range of commercial thyristors available on the market, although it is recommended to use an RC network or "snubber" to improve thyristor triggering and protect them.

EquipmentCards3The RT380M-PCB is a single-phase phase-angle control board that controls the firing of two or four thyristors, depending on the configuration used: B2C, W1C, B2HK, or B2HKF. The RT380M-PCB is a new version that replaces the RT380M-B2C, featuring a different form factor and improved technical specifications. The main technical characteristics of the RT380M-PCB are: a supply voltage of 230Vac or 400Vac (+10% -15%). It can be used for inductive loads such as transformers. It has two types of external setpoint control: 0Vdc to 5Vdc and 0Vdc to 10Vdc, which can be controlled by a 10Kohm potentiometer connected to the 5Vout and 0V terminals. It has a 4kV AC insulation rating and consumes 3W of power. It operates at a frequency from 47Hz to 63Hz and includes a visual LED as a power indicator. The board weighs 240 grams and is easily mounted using four M4 holes. It requires no external components for operation. It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 50°C and a humidity range of 10% to 95%. The trigger current is 300mA with a gate-cathode voltage of 5V DC, making it compatible with a wide range of thyristors of varying power ratings. It is equipped with easy-to-use push-in connectors. It complies with RoHS standards and has physical dimensions of 90cm x 90cm x 30cm (height).

The RT380T-PCB is a three-phase zero-crossing phase-angle regulator board that controls the firing of six thyristors, depending on the configuration used: B6C, B6HK, B6HKF, or W3C. The RT380T-PCB is a new version that replaces the older RT380T, featuring a different form factor and improved technical specifications. The main technical characteristics of the RT380T-PCB are: a supply voltage of 230Vac or 400Vac (+10% -15%), a regulation setpoint signal of 0Vdc to 5Vdc (15Vdc max.) or 0Vdc to 10Vdc (15Vdc max.), and a 5Vdc output with a maximum current consumption of 100mA. It also features a 7V DC to 16V DC inhibitor control signal.
No external components are required for operation. The board weighs 532 grams and activates in approximately one second after being connected. It operates at a frequency of 45Hz to 65Hz with automatic adaptation.

TeamCards4How to design power mounts

In our assemblies, we use an RC circuit, or "snubber," such as the SEMIKRON SKRC-440, to protect the thyristors. This dampens the overvoltages caused by semiconductor switching, thus improving thyristor triggering. We also incorporate an aluminum heatsink into the assemblies to dissipate heat from the semiconductors and achieve greater heat dissipation. Each aluminum profile is different, depending on the type of component used in the assembly. We stock various profiles, each with different Rth TeamCards5(thermal resistance) properties; the lower the Rth, the more heat the semiconductor dissipates. To further enhance heat dissipation, we attach a radial fan to the heatsink to ensure good airflow and more efficient heat dissipation. The most common fan is the SKF 16, rated at 230V AC. From SEMIKRON, with a low noise level of 55dB to 57dB, weighing 3.6 kilograms, and a long service life. SEMIKRON offers the SEMISEL online software for simulating and calculating assembly requirements.

TeamCards6.tiffIndustrial Applications:
The main applications for these boards in our assemblies include: lighting control, oven temperature control, electroplating bath control, electrolysis process control, transformer control, generator control, laboratory test benches, soft start of AC motors, DC motor control, etc.
For example, to vary the speed of a DC motor, you must vary the phase angle synchronized with the electrical grid. Tarjetasdeequipos7.tiffThis means varying the positive DC voltage at the output of the rectifier bridge in rectifier mode, applied to the motor's armature, thus rotating the motor shaft. If the voltage is negative, it acts as an inverter (in four quadrants), producing regenerative braking and returning energy to the grid, according to the system's mechanical force.

Conclusions and Improvements:
The RT380M-PCB and RT380T-PCB boards do not offer closed-loop operation. They feature easy connection and handling via push-in and screw terminals. These boards are economical and offer a high degree of operational and lifespan reliability. The RT380M-PCB and RT380T-PCB provide linear and fine (gradual) regulation, but they produce odd harmonics at the input when regulating resistive and inductive loads.
The APTT-842M and SKW3ZC boards do not produce harmonics at the input because they operate on/off switching.

All control boards comply with the RoHS standard and are applicable to the entire range of thyristors available on the market.
