Microchip Technology today announced the MCPF1525 power module, a highly integrated device with a 16V input buck converter capable of delivering 25A per module, which can be multiplied up to 200A. The MCPF1525 allows for increased power density in the same rack space and includes a programmable PMBus™ and I2C controls. This device is designed to power the next generation of PCIe® switches and high-performance microprocessor computing applications required for AI implementation.

The MCPF1525 comes in an innovative vertical package that maximizes board space, reducing its footprint by up to 40% compared to other solutions. This compact power module measures approximately 6.8 mm x 7.65 mm x 3.82 mm, making it an ideal solution for AI servers where size is a constraint.

To enhance reliability, the MCPF1525 incorporates several diagnostic functions transmitted via PMBus™, such as over-temperature, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection, to minimize the number of undetected faults. The device package features thermal enhancements and is designed to operate within a junction temperature range of
-40°C to +125°C. An embedded EEPROM allows users to program the default boot configuration.

“Thanks to Microchip’s broad portfolio of solutions, including PCIe® Switchtec™ technology, FPGAs, microprocessors, and Flashtec® NVMe® controllers, the MCPF1525 power module can help customers achieve the efficiency, reliability, and system scalability required by high-performance data centers and industrial computing,” said Rudy Jaramillo, vice president of Microchip’s Analog Power and Interfaces division. “Full integration with the Microchip portfolio simplifies development and reduces risk, helping designers accelerate time to market.”.

The MCPF1525 integrates a custom-designed inductor to reduce conducted and radiated noise in order to improve signal integrity, data accuracy, and high-speed computing reliability, thereby helping to reduce repeated data transmissions, which increase power consumption and waste system time.

Microchip offers a wide range of DC/DC power modules with input voltages from 5.5-70V, supplied in very compact, rugged packages with thermal enhancements designed to increase power density. For more information on Microchip power modules, please visit the website.
