Nexperia offers ASFET families for battery isolation, motor control, hot-swapping, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. The specific improvements these custom ASFETs offer are tailored to each application; examples include a 3- to 5-fold improvement in the Safe Operating Area (SOA) for hot-swapping applications and peak current ratings exceeding 300 A for motor applications.

According to Chris Boyce, Senior Director of the Power MOSFET Group at Nexperia: “As designers push the boundaries of performance, it’s crucial to understand how the MOSFET will be used in the application. There are over 100 parameters on a typical MOSFET datasheet, but usually only a few are critical in each project. However, as applications change, so do the critical parameters. At Nexperia, we determine the performance of every element of our products: the core silicon technology, chip design, packaging, and manufacturing and testing procedures. By keeping individual application requirements at the heart of our thinking, we can choose to optimize the parameters that matter most in a particular use case, often at the expense of others of lesser importance. Essentially, we’ve combined our proven MOSFET expertise with extensive application knowledge so that we can tailor products that deliver maximum performance for a specific application or functionality.”

The ASFET category will be further enhanced with the imminent launch of a new family of automotive products with guaranteed performance against repeated avalanches for driving inductive loads.

Boyce added, "We are continually looking to deepen our understanding of specific applications, often working closely with our customers. By exposing our best engineers to the detailed requirements of applications, we are opening up exciting new possibilities for innovation—there are many more ASFET advancements in the pipeline."
