The PAN1026A is based on Toshiba's TC35661 single-chip Bluetooth semiconductor device with a Toshiba Bluetooth SIG-certified stack. It integrates an embedded SPP (Serial Port Profile of Bluetooth Classic) stack and a GATT (Generic Attribute Profile of Bluetooth LE) stack.

The PAN1026A module provides all the necessary clocks, EEPROM, and an integrated antenna, significantly reducing the number of external components and power consumption in applications requiring Bluetooth 4.2 compatibility. The integrated EEPROM has a Panasonic MAC address and can be used to store link keys. Because the PAN1026A is fully compatible with the pinout and size of its predecessor and uses the same Software Development Kit, upgrading from the PAN1026 is very straightforward.

Compared to the PAN1026, the PAN1026A offers additional features for secure Bluetooth LE connections. Along with faster low-energy data transfer, the transmission power can also be controlled. The PAN1026A module is housed in a small 15.6 mm x 8.7 mm x 1.9 mm SMD package with a shielded housing and is compliant with Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.2 standards.

Comments from Pascal Meier, Product Manager at Panasonic: "Our new PAN1026A module allows us to offer both legacy Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy connections with fast connection and disconnection, necessary for a wide range of applications, all in a compact form factor.".

Prototyping and testing can be accelerated using the PAN1026A Evaluation Kit (Part Number: ENW89837AUKF). It contains two PAN1026A USB Evaluation Sticks. The sticks feature a USB-to-UART converter and allow access to the module pins. They are designed for use with Easy SPP/BLE. A PAN1026AEMK Experimentation Kit (Part Number: ENW89837AWKF) is also available. This kit can be used to develop low-power BT applications using the new PAN1026A.

The PAN1026A module is fully certified according to CE RED, FCC and IC.
