igus has developed a stable material for the SLS method, enabling users to flexibly and cost-effectively produce wear parts with ESD properties. Lubrication-free parts manufactured from iglidur I8 ESD can be printed and shipped in just a few days.

For wear-resistant parts in the electronics and semiconductor industries, not only is a long service life required, but electrostatic conductivity is also essential. An electrostatic charge source that is not dissipated by an insulating material can destroy the product. For the rapid production of special electrostatically conductive parts, igus has developed a new technical plastic, iglidur. iglidur I8-ESD is the third material type offered by igus for the SLS printing method. The advantages of this method include: users have great design freedom and can manufacture components without tooling costs. Furthermore, there is no waste, as excess powder can be reused multiple times and printed parts can be recycled. Parts made with the new SLS powder, like all igus materials, do not require additional lubrication and are structurally very stable.

A dynamic test showed that the wear resistance of a part sintered in iglidur I8-ESD is twice as high as that of a component sintered in PA12. igus offers iglidur I8-ESD in its online shop as SLS powder for on-site processing or for manufacturing a component using igus' 3D printing service. For the latter, the user simply sends the required part's STEP file to igus. The product is printed and shipped in just three days, and there is no minimum order quantity.
