As the electrification of automobiles rapidly advances towards a decarbonized society, the development of more efficient, compact, and lightweight electric powertrain systems is now essential. However, achieving low losses in a small size for SiC power devices, which are attracting attention as key components, has not been an easy challenge. ROHM has solved these problems within powertrains with its TRCDRIVE pack™.

TRCDRIVE pack™ is a trademark of ROHM's molded-type SiC modules developed specifically for traction inverter drive applications. It reduces size by utilizing a unique structure that maximizes heat dissipation area. Furthermore, ROHM's low-conduction-resistance 4th generation SiC MOSFETs are integrated, resulting in an industry-leading power density 1.5 times higher than that of general molded SiC modules, while also contributing significantly to the miniaturization of electric vehicle (xEV) inverters.

The modules are also equipped with control signal terminals that use push-in contacts, allowing for easy connection by simply pushing the gate driver board from above, which significantly reduces installation time. Furthermore, low inductance (5.7 nH) is achieved by maximizing current path and using a two-layer busbar structure for the main wiring, which helps reduce switching losses.

Despite developing modules, ROHM has established a serial production system similar to that of discrete products, which allows for a 30x increase in production capacity compared to conventional SiC case-type modules.

Product Range:
The TRCDRIVE pack™ is scheduled for launch in March 2025 with a range of 12 models in different package sizes (Small/Large) and mounting patterns (TIM: Heat Dissipation Foil/Sintered Ag). In addition, ROHM is developing a 6-in-1 product with an integrated heat sink, which is expected to contribute to the rapid design of traction inverters and the launch of models tailored to a wide variety of design specifications.
