In MRI scanners, the inductive components are located in the so-called gradient amplifier. The amplifier supplies output voltages and currents and controls the gradient coils that encode the resonant signals for subsequent image reconstruction. The filter and network inductors are responsible for achieving a correct sine wave and also for providing feedback of unused energy with reduced losses.
The magnetostriction-free materials, specially developed by SMP for each application, ensure quiet operation. The powder-based materials have reduced eddy current losses and low remagnetization losses. The components are characterized by their low losses, excellent electromagnetic compatibility, and maintenance-free operation. The three-dimensional isotropy of the materials leads to compact and lightweight structures, as iron lengths are minimized. This also reduces magnetic excitation, and the volume of winding material used can be significantly reduced. The materials have a high saturation induction, up to 2 Tesla. The use of special materials or suitable, magnetically coupled designs with multiple windings are key factors in specifically tuning the shock's vibration behavior.
SMP's inductive components, in addition to their use in electromedicine, are also employed in industrial applications in power electronics, automation, and signal processing; in transmission engineering applications, including for railway technology, electromobility, and marine engineering; in renewable energy and power supply applications; and in the aerospace industry. Depending on the application, the components are designed as, for example, single-conductor inductors for high currents, simple inductors, modular inductors, or LC filters. They are available in sizes from 19 mm to 300 mm and weights from 0.05 kg to 130 kg, and can be manufactured up to temperature class H (up to 180°C). Depending on the application, protection ratings up to IP66 are available. All components comply with RoHS and REACH regulations and are CE and EAC certified. The materials used are UL listed.
