air-sensor-module-wBut the AMS iAQ-core is a small MEMS technology sensor module, with all the processing built in, communicating via I2C bus the detection of a wide range of oxygen-reducing gases such as CO2 and VOCs, thus allowing this type of monitoring to be implemented very easily and at low cost.

The presence of these types of gases in the air is reported by the sensor as CO2 equivalent units (in ppm) and as total units of volatile organic compounds TVCOs (in ppb), giving electronic-based systems the ability to react to the presence of the gases.

When the concentration of these gases reaches a certain pre-established threshold, the systems can automatically activate activities such as increasing ventilation, sending messages, changing airflows, etc

The iAQ sensor also measures CO2 concentration, correlating to VOCs:

The main features of the IAQ-core module are:
• Supply voltage: 3.3V
• Power consumption: 67mW (iAQ-core C) or 9mW (iAQ-core P)
• Communication interface: I2C
• Dimensions: 15.24 x 17.78mm
• Operating humidity range: 5 to 95% (non-condensing)
• Measurement temperature: 0 to 50ºC
• Measurement range: 450 to 2000ppm of CO2.
These are some of the substances detected by the IAQ-core module:
• Alcohols
• Aldehydes
• Aliphatic hydrocarbons
• Amines
• Organic acids
• Aromatic hydrocarbons
• CO, CH4, LPG
• Ketones
