Both sensors incorporate self-testing functions, consume only 0.25mA at 3.3V and are supplied in 10-pin, 3mm x 3mm LGA packages.

“The rapid evolution of digital sensor technology in the consumer market is well known,” says Nader Sadrzadeh, CEO of Kionix. “However, industrial companies are now recognizing the advantages of these technologies and increasing their investments in them to achieve greater efficiency, reduce costs, and improve performance. Unlike the consumer market, with its short upgrade cycles, it often doesn't make sense in the industrial sector to abandon existing infrastructure and adopt digital solutions due to the significant capital already invested, the long operational life of the equipment, and the need to ensure continuity. Therefore, while digital technology dominates the consumer sector, analog technology remains very much alive and is often preferred in industrial applications. Kionix recognizes this need, which is why it is complementing its high-bandwidth, half-g digital range by incorporating the KX220 series of analog accelerometers.”.

Since the primary application of industrial sensors is the monitoring of machines and physical processes, their range and bandwidth requirements are generally higher than those of consumer handheld devices. These sensors target applications ranging from vibration analysis to the detection and measurement of shocks and impacts. The markets they serve include machine condition monitoring and diagnostics, robotics and automation, and manufacturing process control.
