Custom-designed and built systems exist for specific power electronics units, but these are often difficult to maintain and lack flexibility. This limits the development process and hinders product improvements.
The Chroma 8000 ATS system is a standard test platform that solves this problem. Over 20 years of experience in the power electronics industry has enabled Chroma to develop highly flexible and powerful test platforms, with more than 1,500 8000 systems used in R&D, quality control, and production lines worldwide. This system is built on an open architecture that allows users to easily integrate various test instruments, including AC and DC power supplies, electronic loads, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, as well as a variety of digital and analog I/O cards and connection accessories. This open platform provides powerful, cost-effective, and adaptable systems for a multitude of power electronics applications for electric and hybrid vehicles. It includes sophisticated test software, including predefined programs and the ability to define new test devices and create new tests using the editing function. This allows for virtually unlimited expansion of the test device library. This editor is a powerful tool similar to the C language but much easier to use. It allows you to define test procedures, condition variables, result variables, and time variables. It's also possible to link predefined devices for batch testing.
The following images show some examples of 8000 series systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. The system not only performs tests and reports the results to a computer, but also networks the results to plant control for production lines, enabling recording, monitoring, and analysis.
The demand for charging stations is growing rapidly as electric and hybrid vehicles gain popularity. Unlike conventional gasoline pumps, which consist primarily of mechanical parts, electric charging stations incorporate sophisticated electronics to measure and control the amount of energy required and transferred to the vehicle. To keep charging stations and charging points in optimal and precise condition, frequent maintenance and calibration are required. Chroma has developed mobile automated systems to diagnose, measure, and calibrate charging stations.
Vehicle powertrains are transitioning from mechanical designs based on internal combustion engines to fully electric ones. Therefore, repair shops specializing in traditional combustion vehicles must quickly familiarize themselves with electrical systems. To maintain vehicles in optimal condition and minimize the risk of exposure to hazardous electrical signals, the Chroma 8000 system offers unique and dynamic diagnostic and safety features. These include vehicle battery testing, voltage/current parameter readings, CAN bus interface, diagnostic reporting, and more. The test system also transmits diagnostic results via the internet directly to the vehicle manufacturer for data analysis.
