With up to seven voltages (300 V each) or ten currents (30 to 60 A per channel, 450 A single-phase), the CMC 500 unit supports a wide range of applications, making it ideal for field use and commissioning in conventional, hybrid, and digital IEC 61850 substations. The device is available in five variants, each compact and lightweight (12.1–15.6 kg) to suit specific requirements.

The CMC 500 achieves high testing efficiency through standardized test plans and almost fully automated execution, including the necessary documentation. Compared to manual testing, this can reduce testing effort by up to 80%. The ease of repeatability and reproducibility ensures high-quality testing without additional effort. Powerful software options enable efficient testing of both setting parameters and the correct behavior of the protection system.

It supports communication protocols such as GOOSE, R-GOOSE, MMS, and Sampled Values (including those with configurable datasets), enabling testing of both current and future relay generations. These protocols are integrated into the test plans, allowing users to take full advantage of automated testing in IEC 61850 environments.

The CMC 500 unit has been reinforced to minimize cyber threats in substations. Equipped with a Trusted Platform Module (TPM2.0) compliant with ISO/IEC-11889, it uses certificates and secure boot to prevent the execution of unknown software or malicious code. Additional security features include unique device authentication and encrypted, password-protected communication between the device and the PC. OMICRON's company-wide cybersecurity concept is an integral part of development and continues throughout the entire product lifecycle.

The multi-level safety concept, compliant with ISO 13849-1, includes an interlock key and an operating mode button to ensure a high level of workplace safety. The device's red indicator lights provide clear feedback on any potentially hazardous output status at all times. Furthermore, an interface for several external emergency stop buttons (coming soon) allows for easy setup of safe test configurations in accordance with EN 50191.
A versatile application that adapts even to unique requirements,
the CMC 500 unit offers a wide range of applications, testing protection relays of all generations, including the latest protection technologies such as relays with sensor inputs and traveling wave protection relays. It also enables functional testing of current transformers, circuit breakers, and transducers. With ten measurement inputs (binary and analog) for real-time measurements and signal logging, the device allows for rapid fault location or analysis of switching operations. A variety of accessories for specialized testing tasks are also available.
