Simulating higher-speed resolvers has become increasingly important, as modern control systems used in automotive, aerospace, and defense applications utilize high-speed resolvers with excitation frequencies up to 80 kHz to enhance signal bandwidth, reduce noise susceptibility, and improve dynamic response. Software-integrated testing with lower-speed resolver simulations can lead to reduced fidelity and software errors.
The updated module enables the simulation of multiple resolver pole pairs. While most electromechanical resolvers have a maximum rotational speed of 20 kRPM when simulating, for example, four pole pairs, the corresponding x4 factor means this translates to 80 kRPM of electrical cycles for simulation.
“Instead of relying on FPGA approximations, our updated family of resolver simulators uses built-in real transformers,” says Stephen Jenkins, simulation product manager at Pickering Interfaces. “As a result, our modules provide accurate, real-world analog signals with high-resolution angle simulation, ensuring reliable performance even at the highest speeds.”.
The 41-670 (PXI) and 43-670 (PXIe) series are ideal for simulating variable differential transformers (VDTs), both linear (LVDTs) and rotary (RVDTs), as well as resolvers with high-speed simulation up to 130 kRPM. They have two (41/43-670-303) or four (41/43-670-301) banks, each capable of simulating the output of a single 5- or 6-wire VDT or resolver, or dual 4-wire resolvers using a shared excitation signal. This allows the module to simulate up to four 5- or 6-wire channels, or eight channels.
The high channel density of the PXI enables testing multiple resolver channels in a compact footprint. Furthermore, with the addition of integrated relays, the 41/43-670 can also provide short or open circuits for the inputs and outputs of each channel, reducing the need for external switching for fault insertion requirements. Programmable phase delay can also be used to simulate imperfect sensors and wiring, artificially compensating for single or multiple outputs.
Pickering Interfaces backs its products with a standard three-year warranty and long-term technical support.
