The flexibility of the GL SPECTIS 4.0 M is based on the instrument's variable optical path. Users can insert different filters, lenses, or apertures into the signal path, thus optimally configuring the device for the specific customer application. Up to four filters can be combined, increasing the instrument's dynamic range tenfold without changing the measuring probe. Regarding the measuring probe: the backscatter detector is thermally stabilized, resulting in equally low signal noise and dark current. This enables reliable measurements at extremely low signal levels, especially in the UV range. However, this approach also improves measurement accuracy in the visible and infrared ranges.

For specialized UV applications, a variant of the spectroradiometer equipped with a dedicated UV measurement module is also available. With its high optical resolution, this version is ideal for measurements in areas where a change in wavelength has a direct impact, such as on the effectiveness of UV disinfection processes or in medical applications. Restricting the measurement range to the ultraviolet portion of the spectrum in this module enables an even higher optical resolution of 0.5 nanometers (nm). This variant complies with EN 62471:2010 for photobiological systems and EN 60601-2-41 for electromedical equipment. This allows users to determine the suitability and required UV radiation dose for specific applications. Another area of application is photobiological safety assessment.

In addition to its extensive configuration capabilities, another factor further enhances the versatility of the GL SPECTIS 4.0 M: the system can also be used in conjunction with GL Optic integrating spheres and goniometer systems. Furthermore, the manufacturer offers dedicated, modular PC software for spectral analysis.
